Rescue Dog Training

Owning a rescue dog can be both rewarding and challenging. You are providing a dog that really needs it, a home and family, but you are adopting a dog with limited knowledge of its’ background. Many rescue dogs find themselves needing a new home simply because their previous owners did not dedicate enough time to the proper training, socialisation and exercise of their dog. Rescue dogs require a period of adjustment in their new home and often have special behavioural / training needs that have to be addressed. Some of these issues include fear aggression (towards people and other dogs), lack of socialisation, basic obedience, toilet training, destructive behaviour, timid/shy behaviour, undesirable behaviour habits (jumping, nipping) and trust issues.

An essential part of adopting a rescue dog is training. The Pawfessionals have experience working with rescue dogs and are very aware of the special training needs that rescue dogs have. We also currently own a rescue dog, who is an integral part of our family and who we have had to spend a great deal of time training to overcome his past successfully.

We will offer you a one on one training session in your own home / backyard or the environment in which a problem behaviour occurs, tailored to your individual needs and depending on what you want to achieve you can have one session or as many as you like. A rescue dog can be trained and counter-conditioned but it does take time, positive reinforcement and dedication.

Our sessions will give you the leadership skills and confidence needed to handle your dog and improve your relationship with your dog. I am a firm believer in positive training methods and I have a proven track record to show that this method works well.

We do not place a time limit on our sessions but find that generally a session of up to two hours is enough for owners and dogs to manage. Further sessions are charged at a lower rate and are advisable in order to check on progress and reinforce training methods again.

Your training session doesn’t end after our joint training session is completed, you will be sent a written summary of training points covered during the session via email and as part of our ongoing commitment to the training of your dog we also offer over the phone training advice for the life of your dog at no extra charge.
